Quick 'Bot + nasty colours

Titles says it all, was waiting for hot water to warm up, decided to doodle a robot. This one is better than the last 4-legged, but its arms are like little chicken wings. Once again, a weakness to exploit, but if I was to redraw this I would probably use almost the whole circumference of the body armour for an arm... This reminds me of Metang...

Random designs (update E-102 rip off)

These are a bit random, but are for Pinnochio. There is a possibility of hover bikes in this future, and a strong possibility of a combat robot which Pinnochio will fight against. This is me having a little doodle. The second, grey version is top heavy and awkward looking, but I see that as a good thing for a possible fight sequence... Except the small under-torso mounted triple barrel gun ... I wanna cut that... Add's nothing to it.

I might theme the robot designs to appear like Chess pieces, so that even if he only fights one or two, there are other versions sitting in the background which are alluded to be other training versions...Like a Rook-type would be good at direct combat, but come unstuck from a blindspot... a Knight would be acrobatic but loses track of its opponents easily... Bishop could have a good peripheral field of vision, but is shit up close... Queen is fantastic up close or afar, but can be 'out-danced'... King is a powerhouse but slow... Pawn's are small and direct on their own, but when teamed up with another unit unlock their true potential... And thats just what I came up with whilst blab-typing.

Oh and the top left hover bike is badly drawn... its just this idea I have had for a bit... a guy face-on... still havent got it down though... but this will serve as referece if I ever get around to developing the image... MAYBEITNEEDSSPEEDLINES!?

Bah, did a doodle hoping to imitate the 4 legged walker from Akira, ended up looking like E-10FUCKING2 Gamma from Sonic Adventure. Still, maybe I should consider that robot for ref... I did like him...

Self Portrait (so-so) (Edit+ new portrait)

Another off-topic post...

Nose is too long.
Chin isnt big enough.
One eye is marginally smaller than the other.
My hair really looks like that today.

And I did not much like that one, so I re-drew it after layering the original over a photo of me in photoshop to see just how much I was going wrong. AndI needed to take about a third of my nose off, trim the lips a little...

Chin could still do with a bit more.. chin.. tbh

Old Work - Owl and Pussycat / Deep Space.

From my first year, the Owl and the Pussycat project. The text is still a bit rough, but I am happy with the style and narrative.
From my second year is the image at the bottom, the 5 stages of Grief, a collection of images which I believe convey the emotional and mental breakdown of suffering.

I am upping these as a little reminder of my love for narrative. After some late night discussions I might have an epic Pinnochio story down, just need to write the treatment...

Monstro - Jaws

The title is slightly misleading, this is not a great white shark, but actually a Megalodon, an extinct giant shark species. Once again, photographic ref to sttart with BUT THEN THINGS GO CRAZY with robotix obv.

I was experimenting with fans and propellors... and I think colour wise it might be nice to have everything above the waters edge be clean and iPod-ish but Monstro's mechanics (it will almost definitely have some) to be rusty and copper coloured... almost Victorian in appearance I guess.

The last page of illustrations is another extinct shark, Stethacanthus, where I concentrated its image towards being a military device... or a floating city...

Monstro - Kurt Angler Fish

Angler Fish are just fucking scary. That's all I can say.

They have bioluminscence up the wazoo and a mouth which looks like a bear trap.
These are mostly drawings from photo ref, just getting my head around its form... AND SCARY FUCKING MOUTH.

Monstro - whale of a time

Easily the character I have developed the most is Monstro. From the original text Monstro is a giant dogfish, yet Walt Disney went with a giant whale (likely so the kids arent scared). Monstro's existence in my tale has changed a lot... at one time I a leviathan travelling through space, also a scorpion and (effectively) a dump truck. I went a little star wars expanded universe and remembered the dominating World Devestator's from the Dark Empire comics...
But still, I came back to the water. Monstro is a symbol of death and (re)birth. Whilst the film kills the marionette off almost instantly after they leave the whales belly, the book has Gepetto and Pinocchio take refuge for some time in the Crickets house, until the Blue Fairy grants life to the puppet.
Water is a female symbol... Pinocchio is practically born in the escape from Monstro, as though escaping the womb, finally being born from the mother correctly instead of born from the father...

This is the first batch of Monstro photos.. Initial ideas first!

SHARKTOPUS!!

Pinocchio - boy 50/50 toy

Undoubtedly the version I most enjoy is the mixed breed. Whilst my concepts have him looking a bit too slick like Astro, and a bit too old (depending on the story development it may fit...), I still really like this version.
He feels incomplete, looks a little soulless. An idea I was considering was that he would be half robot half boy FO RL and that he may have a human brain and/or heart, possibly having memories or not feeling complete.
That may smell too strong of Astro though, as he was built by professor Tenma to replace the son he lost (in a car accident, I believe), but its just an idea. If I have a great hook for WHY he has human parts, then I will keep it going.
There is a Naruto nod as well, with the small badge appearing sewn in to a torso in the last jpeg... The broken torso is also story-specific... might not happen.

Pinocchio - more boy than toy

At the opposite end of the spectrum, a more human version akin to a Terminator or Replicant. This could lead to some nice scenes, where a child-like Pinocchio could smash his way through a burning building to save a child yatta yatta. I am trying to steer away too much from action-heavy battles... I do not want to end up with a fist-fight between Pinocchio and Monstro, put it that way.

In the left jpeg, I like the idea that 'giving birth' may mean a test tube... Also the X-head screw symbol on the shirt for a visual clue as to his identity if all else fails. The right jpeg features various stuff... faces. bleh.
